Pseudociccaba

(Strigidae; syn. Megascops White-throated Screech Owl M. albogularis) Gr. ψευδος pseudos  false; genus Ciccaba Wagler, 1832, owl; "Subgenus PSEUDOCICCABA Subgen. nov.  Type, Ciccaba albogularis albogularis (Cassin).  Subgen. chars.— Size smaller, wing less than 215 mm.; face more loosely feathered; facial rim obscure; loral bristles much exceeding bill; plumage of young barred all over; lower end of tarsus and bases of toes not feathered." (L. Kelso 1932); "Pseudociccaba L. Kelso, 1932, Synopsis of the American Wood Owls of the genus Ciccaba, p. 39.  Type, by original designation, Ciccaba albogularis, i.e. Syrnium albogularis Cassin, 1850." (JAJ 2021).
